Rene Paredes Secures The Win For Stamps

Rene Paredes left McMahon Stadium on their feet.

The Stampeders took down the Redblacks 40-38 on Saturday evening, thanks to veteran kicker Rene Paredes clutching up with a massive 62-yard walk-off-field goal to snap a two-game skid. The Stamps improve to 6-8 on the season and will get ready to face-off again with the Redblacks next week in the Capital.

Receiver Tevin Jones tied a career-high in the tilt, scoring his fifth receiving touchdown of the season, matching his total from 2024.

The Stamps took their first offensive drive back for an 11-play, 70-yard drive that led to a one-yard rushing touchdown from pivot Quincy Vaughn.

Ottawa answered back, scoring a touchdown with a couple minutes remaining on the clock.

The Stampeders next offensive drive featured the golden boot of Rene Paredes. The veteran kicker tied his career-high when he nailed a 57-yard field goal to make it 10-7 for the Red andWhite.

The Redblacks pushed in the final minute, scoring to take their first lead of the game.

That didn’t sit well with veteran receiver Jones, who scored a huge 60-yard touchdown in his first game back after sitting for a couple. Calgary went into half with a 17-14 lead.

In the third quarter, Vaughn was called upon again. This time the bruiser punched in a three-yard touchdown to extend the lead to 24-14.

The momentum shifted in the fourth quarter after Ottawa took their first lead of the game.

Calgary didn’t sit back, VA connected with Philpot on a 26-yard touchdown to regain the lead with three minutes remaining.

Rookie halfback Zy Alexander made a huge play intercepting an Ottawa pass in the dying minutes of the fourth. That interception set up the next offensive drive that resulted in a Paredes field goal.

Ottawa responded late, scoring a touchdown to take the lead with a minute remaining.

It came down to a 62-yard field goal if Calgary had any hope of winning, and Paredes answered the bell. In his 251st game, the veteran kicker nailed the second longest field-goal in CFL historyfor the win.

The Stamps are hitting the road for a rematch with the Redblacks in Week 17.

Kickoff for the clash is set for 1:00 p.m. MT.

The Red and White will not return home until Week 20 for their final regular season game against the BC Lions.
