Stamps Stumble In Labour Day Rematch

The Stamps drop to 5-8 after falling 53-16 to Edmonton in the Labour Day rematch.

Dedrick Mills, Dejon Brissett and Ben Labrosse all exited the game due to injuries.

The Elks got on the board first after Clarence Hicks took down Cody Fajardo for his tenth sack of the season, forcing Edmonton to kick a field goal.

The Stampeders answered back after Vernon Adams Jr. connected with Jalen Philpot for 46 yards to set Calgary up in the red zone. Adams then found Erik Brooks wide open in the back of the end zone to give the Red and White a 7-3 lead.

Edmonton added another field goal and a pair of touchdowns to retake the lead 19-7.

In his 250th career game, Rene Paredes added three for the Stamps to cut the deficit 19-10 at halftime.

Aside from another pair of Paredes field goals, it was all Edmonton in the second half.

Second-year quarterback Josh Love took over the offence for the final frame.

The Stamps return to McMahon Stadium next Saturday, Sep. 19, for the first of a home-and-away with the winless Ottawa Redblacks. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. MT.
